Anisa Mahmoudi

Anisa Mahmoudi is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa, holding an LL.M (with a focus on human rights) from the University College London as well as an L.L.B degree (University of Cape Town). Her legal career began at the Legal Resources Centre, a human rights legal NGO whose aim is to ensure that the rights and freedoms guaranteed in the Constitution are respected, promoted, protected and fulfilled. She has also worked as a researcher with the Democratic Governance and Rights Unit, an applied research unit within the Public Law Department of the University of Cape Town and has interned with the British Institute of International and Comparative Law and Human Rights Watch. She has served as Chairperson of the board of trustees of a South African NGO, the South African Faith and Family Institute, which focusses on violence against women and children and has volunteered with the Office of Public Affairs of the Baha’is of South Africa on advocacy campaigns involving freedom of religion and belief. Currently, she volunteers with the Office of Public Affairs of the Baha’is of the UK as a representative of the Asylum Advocacy Group and assists with projects as and when needed. She resides in London and has a keen interest in refugee law, women’s rights and the rights of children and is contributing to the Kids Empowerment country report on the status of migrant children in South Africa.
